Euro nymphing, French nymphing, modern nymphing, tight lining - no matter what you call it it's one of the most effective fly fishing techniques in many waters. In this video I try it out for the first time in the small streams of Idaho and Washington on my budget $200 set up.

Caught an 18.5 inch chinook salmon at the Spokane river today! Not fly fishing though
@@IdhFishing11 congrats buddy!
I enjoy fishing the Spokane, but the homeless make it very difficult to fish from shore. So sadly I fish other places
Hello, love this mount! I am a taxidermist in WY and wondered if you could share how much hide you used for this? I have two customers that would like me to do the pack frame mounts for them, but I am curious if I need the whole hide or just like half. Thank you in advance!
I emailed him, but there no response!
What area of the state is this?
💪🏻 💰
why are you guys wearing waders lmao its wet wade season in spokane since like july
@@bike4fish241 it was raining that day
Nice video 👍
So you're telling me that you're supposed to launch the raft by walking it down gently? 😮😂
@@SamongOutdoors hahahaha let’s just say the subject was heavily discussed 😂
Another broken rod… at least it’s not just me
@@jeffreybailey2161 I think it’s time for rod holders on that left side 😂
Another great video. I’m a local who also has a raft and I find the Spokane River to be an incredibly difficult river to fish and produce anything of decent size……. compared to the CDA and Joe. None the less still an incredibly beautiful river to float and fish! 🙌 Maybe I’ll see you out there one day!
@@jamesweselk I agree, it can be a tough cookie to figure out. Make sure to say hi if you see me ! Thank you for watching 😀🎣.
Great video as always! Did you have to get out and drag it all?
@@erk7218 not at all, just had to pay attention to where I was going.
Didn't even no you had your own channel Steve. Watch you with samong all the time.. Actually meet samong the other day at local sporting goods store nice guy . So when i was younger about 30 years ago e used to smash the fish in that river with anything that resembled a sucker fish smolt .. so streamers are it for sure..
@@nolebrady8256 hey I appreciate you watching this channel also! Really appreciate the info, will definitely try some streamers next time.
@@NWoutdoorsadventures I subscribed us Northwest guys gotta stick together. I was born and raised at the base of silver mountain in Kellogg Idaho. My stomping grounds had been totally invaded and taken over it's sad to see atleast for my kids..I'm 56 years old we seen the good old days of hunting. Before the wolves and people.. Enjoy watching your stuff . I do a lot of Clearwater stuff. That's were I cut my teeth on.. Live in Spokane now still Idaho resident. Having hard time switching over to wa.. I love each and every video you put out Steve! Keep up the good work! I’ll be fishing Northern Idaho in 3 weeks. Sooo looking forward to it! Tight lines brutha!,

Where on the Spokane river is this?
@@Nicholaslukich I’ve included enough hints in this one brother.
Quit asking this kind of question. just go explore outside.
Turn that god damn music off. No one wants to hear that on the river.
I started with the mono rig from troutbitten and then eventually stepped down to a micro system. My current set up is 25" of 4x-5” of 4x sighter-tippet ring-appropriate length of tippet for depth, typically 5x or 6x.
@@TheHillsHaveFlies how much tippet do you typically run after the tippet ring? I would assume it changes depending on the depth of the water ?
@@NWoutdoorsadventures typically it’s about 3’ or so but some of the pockets are deeper and will lengthen it as needed.
Enjoyed the video. I had kind of the same experience first time with Euro with lots of fish. Now that you have discovered how great EN can be try to move to a micro leader. I'm casting either straight 25' of 4x or 6lb Amnesia depending on the water. This will add distance to your game and for me it was a game changer. You should be able to triple your casting distance in those situations where you can't sneak up on fish. It will also help with the sensitivity of your rig. Also, a dry dropper rig can be deadly in slower water with a euro setup. For wind keep your rod tip lower to keep less line from blowing in the wind. You can add weight as far as bead size and then pull them slightly to keep contact. There are times when the wind is so bad you have to add an indicator or use dry dropper. No biggie you just have to adjust. There are some videos out there with other tips on dealing with the wind. Hope that helps. You are on your way to becoming one of us Euro Nerds. :)
@@Gbow17 I appreciate all the advice! Super helpful info, can’t wait to get back out there with this set up.
Family Fly Fishing! it does not get better than that always great making memories with the loved ones🤘🏻
@@robertfister6564 couldn’t agree more !
Been using an Echo Shadow X for 4 years now on these same rivers. Love it and bobber nymphing just feels clunky now. Not sure how long your leader is but my setup is 20 ft of 20lb maxima chameleon -> 3 ft of 12lb amnesia -> 18" sighter -> tippet ring -> then whatever X tippet you want. I usually go with 6 ft 4x and have a dropper/dangler about 20" up. Using the 20ft of maxima helps with the wind a bit. Hope this helps.
@@RedBeardFly I really appreciate the leader advice I will have to try that. I’m very new to this set up, that should really help with the wind problems I had. As it’s almost always windy in our area.
Not a fan. Catching becomes more important than the journey to the point of the eat. I'll stick to the traditional methods. Might as well go deep sea fishing with a 5lb piece of lead and a large hook with bait.
@@allendks45 hey to each their own, I hate to hate on methods I haven’t tried personally. Only one way to find out.
It's good to learn and expand ...not every piece of water is .. pnw .dry fly.. or strippin for bulls ...
@@SigmaWolfOutdoors agreed
I need to dust off the old fly rod & give it another shot. I hate fly fishing & barely have any interest in waving around a fairy wand. It's the only style of fishing that I can't stand. I have a grand invested but I just do not like it one bit.
@@Antler_addict perhaps consider selling that stuff, you could get yourself a really nice spin set up with that $$$ I get it it’s not for everyone.

How do you catch fish with the dod jumping in the water
@@kennyorgan3574 he was swimming far left from where we fished haha, and we were casting very far doggie stays close to shore.
Awesome video! I’ve fished that river a few times and it doesn’t disappoint! I’m new to fly fishing and would like to get a redband on the fly there, could you give me any pointers?
@@IdhFishing11 run a dry dropper set up as shown in the video. Fish early or late and just keep getting after it, you will catch some before you know it. Be very careful wading this river.
@@NWoutdoorsadventures thank you! Any specific spots you’d recommend from shore or wading?
@@IdhFishing11 I don’t have a particular place where I can be like this is the spot haha. Bowl and pitcher area has some great hiking trails that provide good access to fishy water. Look for deep fast channels.
@@IdhFishing11 it can be a tricky river, I’ve walked away empty handed many times.
@@NWoutdoorsadventures I tried bowl and pitcher one day with no luck. I did have a dry fly because I was mainly just practicing my cast so that could’ve been the problem. Thanks for the advice!
Montana Raft Frames - -powder coated, cup holders....look 'em up. Outside of Missoula
@@chip9177 thank you so much ! Will definitely check it out.
honestly super disappointed you and @flyfishdan are willing to expose this spot just for a couple views:/
@@flyfish-i8k respectfully this location is constantly fished, the parking lot is full everyday. Local fly shops post reports about this location and send people to fish it all the time. Ive seen articles in fly fishing magazines. This is no super secret spot. I’ve also in no way named or “exposed the location” in the duration of this video. I respect your opinion on the matter, but there are numerous streams I fish in the surrounding 100 mile radius that look and fish identical to this one.
Great video - truly one of the last unknown spots in the Pacific Northwest. I have to admit I was relieved when you kept the name off of RUclips. Thank you for that! Cheers, and FISH ON!!

Love your part of the world and this video made me want to explore more. I try to get down as often as possible. I'm in BC Canada about 2.5 hours straight north of Spokane. It seems like each time I go down I try to scout out new little creeks and streams. Love fishing east and north of CDA. Hope to run into you on a stream someday. Keep fishing and filming!

Yeah I was surprised honestly, apparently fish and game used to stock it years ago. The views made up for lack of fishing 🎣 😀.
Been subbed for over a year & have never gotten a single notification of new vids or had any vids pop up in my recomended vids. RUclips sucks.
I’ve had a few people tell me that, not sure what’s up with that honestly. If you turn on the notification bell it might help. I appreciate the support buddy.

Me and Jeff literally had the same conversation on the way up haha. Always in a hurry somewhere, I do my best to slow down and enjoy the moment.
Nice awsome day for a pack
Hi Steve ,nice video . Thanks 😊
Glad you enjoyed it 😀
I appreciate you sharing your fishing... Thanks for that. I do think you can do this without hot spotting and naming places, water bodies, and fisheries. Takes the pressure off many spots that since COVID + YT are becoming overrun... it also puts the fun back in outdoor life - sense of discovery and even solitude - which used to be the original joy of outdoor pursuits and fishing... just exploring on your own and finding cool spots - not sitting on the couch looking at screens, and asking someone to hand stuff to you. Again, I appreciate that you enjoy the outdoors, just asking you to modify and reduce your impact. Thanks.
Valid point, appreciate the kind yet constructive feedback. I’ve had a few people tell me that, I’ve adjusted in my following videos. I do my best not to hot spot less know spots.
@@NWoutdoorsadventures thank you!
